Sheffield’s Rat Cage picked the perfect band name, and they went on to make the exact kind of music that the name implies: Fast, raw, frantic, visceral, dirty hardcore punk. You can spot all kinds of early-’80s influences in Rat Cage’s guttural attack, but it never feels like pastiche because it’s too urgent.
