It’s been a couple of years since Matt Cutler, the British producer who makes playful and emotive dance music under the name Lone, released “Triton,” his last single. Today, Lone returns with a new one-off called “Ascension.png.” It’s a good one, even if the title just automatically makes me wonder why Lone didn’t call it “Ascension.jpeg” instead. Quite honestly, fuck a PNG file. I have lost good blog posts because I accidentally uploaded a PNG instead of a JPEG to this website and somehow made my whole computer fuck up.

The Avett Brothers & Mike Patton – “Heaven’s Breath”
The world is a wondrous, mysterious place. You never know when you’re going to turn around and discover that the Avett Brothers went off and made an entire album with Mike Patton. At a time when Billy Strings is out here ripping Cryptopsy solos, it might not be that surprising that the Avett Brothers, the big-deal neo-traditionalist bluegrass family act, would want to make a record with Mike Patton, legandary frontman of bands like Faith No More and Mr. Bungle. It’s the sort of thing I can imagine them joking about on the tour bus. But it’s a little more surprising that it actually happened. It did happen. AVTT/PTTN comes out next month.
Redwest Festivalgoer Dies In “Freak Accident” During Weather Evacuation, Attendees Denied Refunds Despite Canceled Post Malone Headline Set
One person died following a freak accident while evacuating Salt Lake City’s Redwest Music Festival last Saturday. The country music fest was evacuated due to severe weather, and 23-year-old Ava Ahlander was struck by a piece of windblown debris from a nearby construction site as she sook shelter in her parked car. A scaffolding board struck Ahlander and her car, and she was taken to the hospital with critical, life-threatening injuries, where her family confirmed she later died.

Father Mother Sister Brother is the latest movie from the great American indie auteur Jim Jarmusch, and it just won the Golden Lion at the Venice Film Festival. For the soundtrack, Jarmusch got together with the Berlin-based post-punk artist Anika, and we get to hear their first selection today.
Jenny On Holiday (Let’s Eat Grandma) Announces Debut Solo Album Quicksand Heart: Hear “Dolphins”
Jenny Hollingsworth is one half of the consistently interesting and often great UK alt-pop duo Let’s Eat Grandma, and now she’s making solo music under the name Jenny On Holiday. Perhaps she’s on holiday from eating Grandma. Last month, Hollingsworth released “Every Ounce Of Me,” her first Jenny On Holiday single, and I thought it was fantastic. Now, she’s ready to announce her first solo album. It’s called Quicksand Heart, and it’s coming out at the top of next year.
Camp Trash – “Believer Now/Rosebowl ‘98”
Camp Trash, the emo-power-pop band whose members include sometimes Stereogum contributor Keegan Bradford, have a new album coming at the end of the month called Two Hundred Thousand Dollars. After priming the pump with “Signal Them In,” they announced the record with the nice single “Between The X’s.” Today they’re back with another one called “Believer Now/Rosebowl ’98.”
Darkside – “One Last Nothing”
Darkside, the psych/electronic band founded by Nicolás Jaar and Dave Harrington, expanded to a trio for this year’s Nothing with the addition of drummer Tlacael Esparza. We named it our Album Of The Week back in February and then talked to the group for our electronic music column Crossing Wires in May. Today they’ve got a new post-album single out, and it rules.

Get comfortable. Find yourself a throw pillow or a nice beanbag or something. Really get yourself into the relaxation zone. You’ll be glad that you did, since there’s a new Steve Gunn track out this morning.
