Bruce Hornsby Announces New Album Indigo Park And 2026 US Tour

In April 1986, Bruce Hornsby and his band the Range released their debut album The Way It Is, and things would never be the same. You see what I did there? It’s not great, but it’s better than the line about “Bruce Hornsby has the Range,” which I thought about using as the lede of this post. Aren’t you glad I didn’t do that? Anyway, Hornsby has had a long, fascinating career. Among many other things, he spent a few years as a touring member of the Grateful Dead, and he recently shared a tribute for his late bandmate Bob Weir.

Courtney Barnett Announces New Album Creature Of Habit: Hear “Site Unseen” (Feat. Waxahatchee)

Courtney Barnett is back, baby! The great Australian artist released the instrumental album End Of The Day in 2023, but it’s been, what, four and a half years since she dropped Things Take Time, Take Time, her last LP with vocals. In the time since then, Barnett’s label Milk! Records has shut down, and she’s…

Midnight Oil Drummer Rob Hirst Dead At 70

Rob Hirst, the founding drummer for Australian new wave greats Midnight Oil, has died. Hirst died due to complications from pancreatic cancer. “After fighting heroically for almost three years, Rob is now free of pain — ‘a glimmer of tiny light in the wilderness,'” Hirst’s Midnight Oil bandmates write in a statement on their socials. “He died peacefully, surrounded by loved ones.” In a separate statement shared to ABC, the band writes, “We are shattered and grieving the loss of our brother Rob. For now there are no words but there will always be songs.” Hirst was 70.

NOFX’s Eric Melvin Sues Former Bandmate Fat Mike

NOFX were a band for more than 40 years. For that entire time, their lineup included singer/bassist Fat Mike and guitarist Eric Melvin. But as soon as NOFX played their final show in San Pedro in 2024, Melvin apparently sued Fat Mike, accusing him of “financial malfeasance.” According to drummer Erik Sandin, the band’s other founding member, Melvin’s lawyers served Fat Mike with legal papers the morning after the band’s farewell gig.

Last October Tori Amos announced that her 18th studio album was on the way, that it’d be called In The Times Of Dragons, and that she’d be supporting it with a massive European tour. Today the singer-songwriter has announced its official release date — May 1 — as well as a trek across the US this summer. That’s the album’s cover art above by Kasia Wozniak.

Powerwasher Announce New EP Pressure: Hear “3-MeO-PCE”

Baltimore’s own Powerwasher play post-punk with the quirky playfulness of Devo and a tough post-hardcore edge. It’s the kind of punk that almost feels like funk, rhythmically volatile in a way that makes me think of cartoon explosions. “3-MeO-PCE,” the lead single from their new Pressure EP, reminds me of the Futureheads and Cheekface in…

Poison 40th Anniversary Tour Plan Collapses Over Bret Michaels’ Financial Demands

Poison haven’t performed together since their 2022 stadium tour opening for Mötley Crüe, but the hair metal hit-makers had been teasing a big anniversary outing this year tied to the 40th anniversary of debut album Look What the Cat Dragged In. It’s not going to happen, and if drummer Ricki Rockett is to be believed, Bret Michaels is to blame.

Wilco & MJ Lenderman Both Covered Neil Young With J Mascis At Sky Blue Sky

Wilco threw their Mexican resort music festival Sky Blue Sky this past weekend at the Hard Rock Hotel in Riviera Maya. Though Cameron Winter had to drop out, presumably to get ready to play SNL with Geese this coming Saturday, the lineup was still stacked with all your indie dad-rock faves. The headliners and MJ Lenderman both made good use of Dinosaur Jr.’s presence at the event, with each act welcoming J Mascis to the stage for a Neil Young cover.
