Avery Tucker used to be one half of the great indie rock duo Girlpool, and he’ll release his full-length solo debut Paw next month. It’s a stripped-down, emotive folk-rock record, and it sounds nothing like what Tucker made with Girlpool, and definitely not like what Harmony, the other former Girlpool member, is making these days. We’ve already posted Tucker’s singles “Big Drops,” “Like I’m Young,” and “Malibu,” and now he’s also shared the closing track “My Life Isn’t Leaving You.”
The Scranton-born musician Adam Andrzejewski (formerly McIlwee) has taken some fascinating career turns over the years. He used to sing and play guitar in the great post-hardcore band Tigers Jaw, which is still going strong. He left that group in 2013, and he started making spooky emo-rap under the name Wicca Phase Springs Eternal. For a while, he was in the GothBoiClique collective with the late Lil Peep. Andrzejewski made pro wrestler Darby Allen’s entrance music, and his Wicca Phase style has evolved a bunch. Now, he’s getting ready to release a folk album, and he’s got a new song with Ethel Cain.
The Seattle Seahawks were in Pittsburgh Sunday to take on the Steelers in the second week of NFL regular season action. The big football storyline in the game was probably Steelers wide receiver DK Metcalf facing off against his old Seattle teammates for the first time after being traded during the offseason, and although Metcalf did catch a touchdown from Aaron Rodgers, the Seahawks prevailed in this one by a two-touchdown margin, 31-17. For a long time now, we’ve been hearing about Springsteen: Deliver Me From Nowhere, the new biopic where Jeremy Allen White plays Bruce Springsteen during the making of Nebraska. Springsteen himself is doing the film a huge favor, releasing the fabled electric version of Nebraska one week before the movie arrives in theaters. The first Deliver Me From Nowhere trailer arrived in June, and it had Jeremy Strong, as Springsteen’s manager Jon Landau, giving a widely mocked monologue about the hole in Springsteen’s floor when he was a kid. Since then, the picture has had its big premiere at the Telluride Film Festival, and that monologue was reportedly cut. Now, we’re getting another Deliver Me From Nowhere trailer. Let’s see if anything gets cut from this one.
The Grace For The World concert was held tonight in Vatican City. The free event had performances from Pharrell, Jennifer Hudson, Karol G, John Legend, Teddy Swims, Jelly Roll, Voices Of Fire, and Clipse. It was the first concert ever held in St. Peter’s Square.

Now, the band is under fire after suggesting fans send love to the family of the recently assassinated right-wing activist and content creator Charlie Kirk last night at their Wembley gig.
Yesterday, ESG were slated to play a show at Oakland’s Crybaby. The South Bronx band (whose “UFO” is one of the most sampled songs in history) canceled last-minute, sharing a statement on social media saying the “environment was marked by toxic masculinity, which fostered hostility and disrespect.”
Last night, Foo Fighters announced their surprise live return, which is happening tonight at San Luis Obispo’s Fremont Theater. It’s the band’s first concert in over a year, and it’s their first with drummer Ilan Rubin replacing the fired Josh Freese and first since frontman Dave Grohl announced he had fathered a child outside of his marriage, which halted the band’s touring plans.
Did Djo name his album The Crux because it rhymes with “deluxe”? No one can prove he didn’t! I thought actor-musician Joe Keery acquitted himself well on that April LP, and then I saw Pavements and thought he was amazing as a fictionalized version of himself going method to play Stephen Malkmus. Now, after trickling out new songs all week (starting with Monday’s “Carry The Name“), Djo has surprise-released a whole second 12-song album called, indeed, The Crux Deluxe. Move over, Swag II!
Cafuné is the Brooklyn-based duo of Sedona Schat and Noah Yoo, who met at NYU a decade ago and have been steadily churning out well-made alternative pop music ever since. Today they’ve got a new album out, Bite Reality, which leans into rock guitars without sacrificing one iota of pop appeal. I can imagine the soaring, distorted “e-Asphyxiation” being mistaken for a masterful new Sky Ferreira single; it’s immediately followed by the clean, pensive “Sore Spot,” which is mesmerizing for entirely different reasons. From the songwriting to the production to the engaging performance, this album put its hooks in me immediately. It’s not pioneering some bold new sound, but if you’re seeking something stylish and catchy, you won’t be disappointed.
