Your Old Droog & Madlib’s Droogie Otis Make TV Debut On Fallon

They got Your Old Droog on Jimmy Fallon now. That’s crazy. Droog, the prolific New York underground rap staple, recently got together with production legend Madlib, a longtime collaborator, to form a unit called Droogie Otis. They’ve released a few singles, and there’s an album in the works. Last night, Droog and Madlib were musical guests on The Tonight Show. Droog has come a long way.

Men At Work Denounce Use Of “Down Under” At March For Australia Events

You never have to question which country Men At Work are from because they put it right in the chorus of their biggest hit: “I come from a land down under.” That song, the chart-topping early ’80s smash “Down Under,” has apparently been played at recent events organized by March For Australia, an anti-immigrant movement whose website bears the motto “Our National Identity Will Not Be Erased.” Colin Hay’s not happy about it.

Former Turnstile Guitarist Brady Ebert Launches New Band The S.E.T., Shares First Song

In 2022, Turnstile announced the departure of founding guitarist Brady Ebert, a sudden and shocking change for the band. Ebert and Turnstile frontman Brendan Yates were childhood friends, and their split was ugly enough that courts reportedly got involved. I still have no idea what happened there, and I can only hope that nobody did…

Winston Hightower Announces New Album 100 Acre Wood: Hear “Lay Low”

Winston Hightower has a new album on the way. The Columbus lo-fi institution will release 100 Acre Wood in April on K’s Perennial imprint. That’s the same label that gave us Sharp Pins, but Hightower’s version of lo-fi is not so obviously Beatles-y. Local forebears Times New Viking’s scrappy, melodic art punk is a reference…

Bruce Hornsby Announces New Album Indigo Park And 2026 US Tour

In April 1986, Bruce Hornsby and his band the Range released their debut album The Way It Is, and things would never be the same. You see what I did there? It’s not great, but it’s better than the line about “Bruce Hornsby has the Range,” which I thought about using as the lede of this post. Aren’t you glad I didn’t do that? Anyway, Hornsby has had a long, fascinating career. Among many other things, he spent a few years as a touring member of the Grateful Dead, and he recently shared a tribute for his late bandmate Bob Weir.

Courtney Barnett Announces New Album Creature Of Habit: Hear “Site Unseen” (Feat. Waxahatchee)

Courtney Barnett is back, baby! The great Australian artist released the instrumental album End Of The Day in 2023, but it’s been, what, four and a half years since she dropped Things Take Time, Take Time, her last LP with vocals. In the time since then, Barnett’s label Milk! Records has shut down, and she’s…

Midnight Oil Drummer Rob Hirst Dead At 70

Rob Hirst, the founding drummer for Australian new wave greats Midnight Oil, has died. Hirst died due to complications from pancreatic cancer. “After fighting heroically for almost three years, Rob is now free of pain — ‘a glimmer of tiny light in the wilderness,'” Hirst’s Midnight Oil bandmates write in a statement on their socials. “He died peacefully, surrounded by loved ones.” In a separate statement shared to ABC, the band writes, “We are shattered and grieving the loss of our brother Rob. For now there are no words but there will always be songs.” Hirst was 70.
