Peace Test Announce New Album Repercussion: Hear “Total Power”

The city of Providence, Rhode Island has a proud history of vast, violent, unhinged music, and Peace Test fit right into that. Peace Test aren’t in the same experimental freak mode as, say, Lightning Bolt or Dropdead. Instead, they play fearsome, guttural, classic-style hardcore, but they crank the speed and intensity to extreme levels that we rarely see these days. Earlier this week, Peace Test announced plans to follow their 2022 full-length debut Pry with a new one called Repercussion. They recorded it with producer Trevor Vaughan, of bands like the Rival Mob and Wound Man, and lead single “Total Power” is a frantic two-minute attack. Check it out below.

DJ Sabrina The Teenage DJ – “Still Standing”

In December, DJ Sabrina The Teenage DJ dropped her highly anticipated four-hour album Fantasy. The prolific London-based electronic artist returned in March with the eight-minute house exploration “HeartsDesires,” and just last week she shared re-mixed, re-engineered, and re-mastered versions of her old LPs Makin’ Magick and Witchkraft. Now, she’s back with “Still Standing,” which has sort of been in the making for a decade.

Chrome Sparks – “Sleeper” (Feat. Khalid & Jónsi)

Here’s a new one from the department of random combinations. Jeremy Malvin, the multi-instrumentalist known as Chrome Sparks, announced his new album Ball Of Light today. “Sleeper,” the opening track and lead single brings together pop-R&B singer Khalid and Sigur Rós frontman Jónsi. Yes, the voice behind “Talk,” “Eastside,” and other grocery store staples has joined forces with the inventor of the Hopelandic language to create airy electronic post-rock. The song really does find a middle ground between their sonic worlds, so well done, Malvin.

John Legend Cast As Harry Belafonte In New Movie About Paul Simon’s Graceland Era

When was the last time that you listened to Paul Simon’s Graceland? I revisited it pretty recently, and god, what an album. Just an incredible collection of songs. Graceland was a critical and commercial smash when it came out in 1986. But at the time of its release, the record also existed within a thorny landscape of racial politics. Simon was inspired by the township music of apartheid-era South Africa, and re recorded it partially in South Africa, with the help of a number of South African musicians. Before making his trip, though, Simon did not consult with the leaders of the anti-apartheid movement, some of whom led a boycott of Simon in response. That’s the story of an upcoming movie from the Oscar-winning Chicago and Dreamgirls director Bill Condon.

16 Underground – “Angel (On The Run)”

16 Underground’s band name is a reference to “6 Underground,” right? It has to be. The LA group’s music directly hearkens back to the ’90s trip-hop moment that yielded the Sneaker Pimps’ hit. They’re good at reviving that sound too, as we heard on the early singles from their forthcoming Without A Trace EP. 16 Underground released a third advance track this week, meaning 60% of the music from this record is out there now, and you, the listener, should be happy about that.
