Tool kicked off their Oceania tour this weekend with two shows at Auckland, New Zealand’s Spark Arena. It’s been over six years since they released their last album Fear Inoculum, but they brought plenty of fresh material by performing a few songs from their back catalog that they hadn’t done in decades.

This year’s Camp Flog Gnaw was originally planned for last weekend at LA’s Dodger Stadium, but extreme weather in the forecast prompted Tyler, The Creator to push the festival back a week. Unfortunately, this resulted in some artists like Clairo dropping from the event, but Kali Uchis, Blood Orange, Geese, Fakemink were all added. The stacked two-day lineup’s also got A$AP Rocky, Childish Gambino, Earl Sweatshirt, Clipse, Doechii, Thundercat, and more. Jellybean Johnson, the founding drummer of Prince’s band the Time, has passed away. The musician born Garry George Johnson celebrated his birthday earlier this week, and his death was announced by his longtime friend and collaborator Sheila E., though the cause is still unknown. He was 69.

Billy Strings never really stops touring, so the fact that he visited The Late Show With Stephen Colbert Thursday night was no surprise. I was a little bit surprised to see he was there to promote Highway Prayers, an album that came out more than a year ago, but I then I realized my perspective was being tainted by flawed modern beliefs about the disposability of music. It’s cool for an album to have a long tail, culturally speaking.
