In 1982, the B-52’s teamed up with David Byrne for an album and ended up putting out the Mesopotamia EP instead. Rumors swirled that the band didn’t like working with the Talking Heads frontman, but Kate Pierson told us a few years ago that their manager had been “pushing us, pushing us, to get the next record out” and they “felt rushed.” Now, a reissue with previously unreleased outtakes and alternate mixes is on the way.

This past December, Scottish musician Theo Bleak released her tender project Bargaining, which we named Album Of The Week. Today, she’s returned with new music that pays homage to a legendary group led by a talented fellow Scot — her version of the Waterboys’ “We Will Not Be Lovers” from 1988’s Fisherman’s Blues. It also comes with a video by Jacob Gandy.

She says it’s “snarky and punk and experimental and inspired by crim3s and death grips :)” It’s about money, bitches, and not fucking with “this clout shit.” It comes with a very New York music video with lots of fireworks. There’s a deep history of Interpol songs that are maybe sort of ambiguously about the band’s New York City hometown, and now we’ve got another entry in that canon. Next month, the veteran rock fashionistas will release their new album This Mirror Weighs A Ton. They recorded it with big-deal producer Andrew Wyatt, and it’s got a mixing job from psychedelic rock legend Dave Fridmann. We’ve already posted the first two singles, the title track and “See Out Loud,” and now they’ve shared “Iron City,” a majestic slow-burn with murky pianos and nice little music-box chimes. Meet Blimp, a band that falls somewhere between grunge and emo. They’ve shared stages with bands like julie and Rocket, and their member Ren Takekawa also plays in yeule’s band. The LA-based four-piece has been on the rise since their dark, enticing 2023 Egg EP. But more recently, they built excitement with May’s “Saccharine,” and they did it again on Monday (July 6) with “Awayward.” The latter is a cathartic, emo-leaning journey that’s riveting and enthralling for all of its six minutes. Snooper have been making big moves. In April, vocalist Blair Tramel joined Hayley Williams onstage for a song. A couple weeks ago, the band was announced as openers for Mannequin Pussy and Wednesday’s Bitch Cabal Tour, which rudely is not coming to New York. Now, they’re back “Recess,” their first new track since last year’s Worldwide (aside from some demos and live recordings they’ve shared). “Recess” has Snooper trading their punk chaos for electronic rambunctiousness, and that’s because it’s directly inspired by “Lip Gloss” by Lil Mama, one of Tramel’s favorite songs. It comes with a music video in an abandoned high school during the demolition process. Watch below.
