Lindsey Buckingham was attacked today in Santa Monica. A woman described as a stalking suspect by NBC 4 threw an unknown substance at Buckingham, 76, while he was walking into an appointment. Police have reportedly identified the woman, who Buckingham is reportedly familiar with from previous incidents. She fled the scene, but police anticipate an arrest soon. There’s no word as to whether Buckingham suffered any health consequences from the attack.

Billy Corgan and Courtney Love go way back. Hole’s head honcho briefly dated the Smashing Pumpkins founder in 1991; she claims most of Siamese Dream is about her. Corgan co-wrote several songs on Hole’s 1998 classic Celebrity Skin, and Hole’s Melissa Auf der Maur did a stint as the Pumpkins’ bassist during the tour supporting 2000’s Machina/The Machines Of God. Today, Love has taken a break from teasing a non-existent Hole reunion and chronicling her journey toward Geese fandom to guest on Corgan’s podcast The Magnificent Others.

Sturgill Simpson and his longtime band have been having themselves a year. The group, now going by the name Johnny Blue Skies & The Dark Clouds, announced the physical-only release of their sex-crazed protest album Mutiny After Midnight with a manifesto of sorts, then leaked it to YouTube a week and a half before release. (The album has since been removed from YouTube, though Simpson says it will be on streaming services eventually.) Mutiny After Midnight debuted at #3 on the Billboard 200, a career best for Simpson, without any streaming to juice his sales figures. Now they’re taking this show back on the road.

In 2023, the inaugural edition of Darker Waves, a festival dedicated to new wave nostalgia, came to Huntington Beach, California. New Order and Tears For Fears headlined a single-day bill full of ’80s synthpop greats and their spiritual successors. Our buddy Ryan Leas reviewed the show for Stereogum, and he seemed to have a great time. There hasn’t been another Darker Waves since then.
