SNL’s Christmas Episode Imagined Cameron Winter Duetting With Benson Boone

A few days before her debut as a featured player on this 51st season of Saturday Night Live, Veronika Slowikowska was over on TikTok doing a Cameron Winter parody. Last night, to cap off a breakthrough year for the Geese frontman, the show unveiled its first impression of him. James Austin Johnson, not Slowikowska, had the honors though. He and fellow Bob Dylan head Winter actually both performed at Newport Folk Festival over the summer so maybe he’d been practicing since then.

Lola Young Shares First Message Since Career Hiatus

After her hit “Messy” catapulted Lola Young into stardom, the 24-year-old singer had a hard year. She canceled performances due to mental health concerns, vomited onstage at Coachella, collapsed during her All Things Go festival set, and then announced a hiatus at the end of September. Now, she’s back with her first message since then.

Conviction Overturned In Killing Of Jam Master Jay

Run-DMC’s Jam Master Jay (real name Jason Mizell) was shot and killed in 2002, and arrests weren’t made until 2020. Ronald Washington and Karl Jordan Jr. were suspected of murdering the hip-hop pioneer, and in 2024 they were found guilty. Now, Karl Jordan Jr.’s conviction has been nixed after the judge ruled that there was not enough evidence that he had a motive to kill Mizell.

Timothée Chalamet Raps With EsDeeKid, Hips Gwyneth Paltrow To Weyes Blood

Last week, Timothée Chalamet recently refused to say whether he’s the secret identity of masked UK rapper EsDeeKid. When questioned directly in three separate UK radio interviews, Chalamet merely repeated, “All will be revealed in due time.” All has now been revealed. Contrary to unserious internet rumor, Chalamet and EsDeeKid are not the same person. They do have a song together, though.

John Keek Shares New Single “somuchlove” With Mk.gee & Andrew Aged

John Keek is an LA-based producer and multi-instrumentalist who’s got a lot of credits on other people’s records, especially those from Dijon, Mk.gee, and that whole crew. Dijon and Mk.gee justifiably get a lot of press, and it’s cool to hear them working on much smaller, quieter releases from their regular collaborators. Last month, for…

Nick Cave & Warren Ellis Release The Death Of Bunny Munro Soundtrack

In 2009, Nick Cave published The Death Of Bunny Munro, a darkly comic novel about a sex-addicted salesman. I read it for work, and I hated it. When The Death Of Bunny Munro first came out, Cave and his frequent collaborator Warren Ellis scored the audiobook. Now, The Death Of Bunny Munro has been adapted…

Pinkshift – “Snow”

The emotive Baltimore punks Pinkshift released their album Earthkeeper earlier this year, and the followed it by releasing the single “Authority Problem” and a live cover of Slipknot’s “Eyeless.” Now, we’re getting one last Pinkshift track before the year is out. It’s a pretty, shimmery, largely acoustic song called “Snow.” I don’t know whether it…

Yo La Tengo & Norah Jones Cover Randy Newman & Bob Dylan At Hanukkah Show

Allow me to pull the curtain back on the way that this particular website operates during the holidays. Once we finalize all our year-end lists, things tend to get way slower around here, and Scott lets us take most of late December off. But someone is always working. Scott is always working, pretty much for his entire life, and one writer per day handles the blog posts. We just divide all of them up among us. Even on Christmas day, someone is posting away. And I have to tell you: On the days when I’m working, I really look forward to blogging about whatever happened at the previous night’s Yo La Tengo Hanukkah show.
