Billy Corgan Gives Zwan Reissue Update, Shares Stevie Nicks And My Bloody Valentine Stories

A couple weeks ago, Stereogum’s VJ Winter was on the red carpet of the Songwriters Hall Of Fame Induction at New York’s Marriott Marquis Hotel. She talked with legends like Brandi Carlile, Kenny Loggins, and even Billy Corgan, who gave her an update on Zwan, his long-dormant supergroup with Jimmy Chamberlin, Matt Sweeney, David Pajo, and Paz Lenchantin. Corgan told us the long-promised reissue is “not quite” a box set, but a ton of unreleased recordings are on the way.

Beabadoobee Announces New Album Pylon Feat. Hayley Williams, Matty Healy, Chino Moreno, Brendan Yates, & More

With 2024’s This Is How Tomorrow Moves, Beabadoobee stuck mostly to the alt-pop sound she’s known for. Now it looks like the English singer-songwriter — who turned 26 earlier this month — is pivoting to emo. Today, she’s announcing her fourth studio album Pylon, and it features major alternative names like Hayley Williams, Matty Healy, Chino Moreno, Brendan Yates, and George Daniel, as well as low-key legends like Title Fight’s Shane Moran and Pinegrove’s Evan Stephens Hall.

Fuming Mouth – “Cheat Death”

Fuming Mouth frontman Mark Whelan really did cheat death. In 2021, Whelan was diagnosed with acute myeloid leukemia. He went through chemotherapy and a bone marrow transplant, and he made it out the other side. Fuming Mouth returned to the stage in 2022, and the Massachusetts hardcore/death metal band released their album Last Day Of Sun in 2023. Next month, they’ll release another LP, and it opens with a song called “Cheat Death.”

Curbside Lambsear – “Man The Door”

Magdalena Mclean is best known for playing in caroline, the critically acclaimed British post-rock collective whose latest record was our Album Of The Week. But she also performs in the art-punk group the Umlauts alongside Annabelle Mödlinger, and the two of them have their own project called Curbside Lambsear. They’ve been doing gigs for some time now, but their hypnotic debut single “Man The Door” is out today. It’s a sprawling, six-minute meditation anchored to the ethereal uttering of the phrase, “With or without, I need you now,” which progressively loses meaning through repetition, becoming an addictive sound floating through a dreamy atmosphere. The track also has caroline’s Jasper Llewellyn and the Umlauts’ Alfred Lear. Dive in below.

Long Odds – “Before Here”

If you know anything about Long Odds, you know the warm and fuzzy indie rock project is led by Adam Elliott, drummer and vocalist for the recently reunited Times New Viking. We reminded you as much when we posted “Faorah,” the lead single from Long Odds’ new album The Dry Land. But did you know they also have members of other great Columbus bands whose music we’ve posted over the years? Philip Kim, for instance, is in Connections, and Joseph Anthony Camerlengo’s many projects include Van Dale. So many noisy, melodious guitar bands converging in one lineup.

SOAK – “Death Valley Fridge Magnet”

Bridie Monds-Watson is back with a lovely new SOAK song today, “Death Valley Fridge Magnet” finds Monds-Watson in that boygenius-era indie singer-songwriter zone: smooth yet emotionally charged, building up from airy acoustics and plaintive piano to a shimmering, fuzz-drenched finale. “Never, never, never gonna let you forget,” Monds-Watson sings, their vocals like a faint beam of light amidst the music’s intensifying churn.

Man/Woman/Chainsaw – “Get Up And Dance”

The keyboard sounds like it’s whistling. That’s the first thing that jumps out at me on “Get Up And Dance,” the eerie and entrancing new single from Man/Woman/Chainsaw. The young British Band To Watch have been rolling out their debut album Cannonball, sharing the winsome advance tracks “Only Girl,” “Nosedive,” and “Goddamn, Lizard Man!” This cannonball launch is not slowing down, either.
