Dovetail – “if you let me (nsii)”

Almost a year ago, Dovetail released a very beautiful track called “raining here, too.” In the fall, I caught them at New York’s beloved Night Club 101 opening for Ken Park; the two Vassar students wore angel wings on their backs and played dreamy songs that swallowed the whole room. Now, the duo is sharing a new tune titled “if you let me (nsii).”

Billy Strings Announces Metal Lineup For His Ionia Freak Fair

Billy Strings is a virtuoso bluegrass musician and a giant star in the jammy Americana world. He’s also a big fucking metalhead. Last year, Strings shredded a solo on a medley of re-recorded 1994 songs from tech-death legends Cryptopsy. Now, Strings is preparing for his own Ionia Freak Fair festival in his hometown of Ionia, Michigan, and he’s booked himself an entire metal stage.

Hew – “Lie In It”

Houston’s Hew have a soaring, chiming take on classic emo. When they get going, they can really punch me in the heart. The group, which includes a couple of Football, etc. members, will release their new album Your Version in a few weeks, and you’re going to want to hear that one. It’s good shit. We’ve already posted the title track and “Reconciliation.” Yesterday, Hew followed those songs with “Lie In It,” a powerful twinkle of a track. In the video, bandleader Lindsay Minton wanders her hometown. Check it out below.

Alas – “Epäsymmetriaa”

The Finnish screamo band Alas have spent this decade accumulating a spotless catalog, full of searing, dynamic, abrasive post-hardcore that stays true to its genre while still appealing to those of us who merely dabble in that life. That streak continues with “Epäsymmetriaa,” a new Alas song out this week as part of a split 12″ with Karnabahar. It’s being released by an enormous number of different record labels in various territories worldwide, and it sounds expansive on that global scale. Listen below.
