Fib – “Mutuals”

The playfully angular post-punk band Fib started off in Portland, a city that was once the center of America’s playfully angular post-punk community. Fib released their debut cassette and then moved to Philadelphia, the new capital of America’s playfully angular post-punk community. They signed to Julia’s War, the label run by They Are Gutting A Body Of Water’s Douglas Dulgarian, and they’ll release their first studio album Heavy Lifting this spring. Today, they share the skronky, off-kilter opening track “Mutuals.” Here’s what the band says about it:

Sextile – “Freak Eyes”

Los Angeles’ Sextile have announced their new album today. It’s called yes, please. — stylistic period included — and it’s the electro-punks’ follow-up to 2023’s Push. Before the full thing arrives in May, the lead single “Freak Eyes” is out now.

Avalon Emerson – “Don’t Be Seen With Me” (Oppenheimer Analysis Cover)

In the early ’80s, Oppenheimer Analysis released New Mexico as a cassette and it quickly became a collectible as the duo became synth pioneers. Since then, the album has had a few rereleases, including one in 2015 following the death of the band’s Martin Lloyd. Today, Avalon Emerson is sharing her appreciation for Oppenheimer Analysis with a cover of the LP opener “Don’t Be Seen With Me.”

The show is happening in the band’s Birmingham hometown this summer, and it will include performances from both Sabbath and solo Ozzy Osbourne. Those sets will headline an absolutely massive metal festival called Back To The Beginning, which will also feature performances from bands like Metallica, Slayer, Anthrax, Pantera, and Gojira, as well as appearances from other hard rock luminaries. Today, the festival gains two huge names, while Osbourne himself is working to temper expectations about what he’ll do in that final performance.

Houston Emo Band Football, Etc. Wanna Know Why Spotify Thinks Kara DioGuardi Co-Wrote Their Most Popular Song

Even if you don’t know Kara DioGuardi’s name, but you likely know at least one song she’s written. Ashlee Simpson‘s “Pieces Of Me,” Gwen Stefani’s “Rich Girl,” and Christina Aguilera’s “Ain’t No Other Man” are just a few hits credited to her. The music biz veteran has certainly written some sad songs, but I don’t think she’s written any emo songs. And yet, she’s mistakenly credited as a writer on Football, Etc.’s most popular song “Safety” on Spotify.
