Last year, Public Enemy hypeman extraordinaire Flavor Flav took it upon himself to sponsor the US Women’s Water Polo team on their way to the Paris Olympics. It worked! Flav became the team’s official hypeman, and the team — well, they didn’t win the gold. They came in fourth, which seems like the worst possible outcome for an Olympic hopeful. But they competed! And now, Flav has turned his attention to the 2026 Winter Olympics in Milan, and he’s now the official hypeman for Bobsled And Skeleton USA.

The Twilight Sad – “Waiting For The Phone Call” (Feat. Robert Smith)

Almost exactly 19 years ago, heavy-hearted Scottish indie rockers the Twilight Sad became a Stereogum Band To Watch. All these years later, the Twilight Sad are still going. These days, they’re probably best-known as the permanent opening act for the Cure. Anytime the Cure announce a new tour, you can be pretty sure that the Twilight Sad will join them. Cure frontman Robert Smith is a big Twilight Sad fan and supporter who’s called them his favorite band and who covered their song “There’s A Girl In The Corner” a decade ago. Now, the Twilight Sad are back with their first single in six years, and it features Robert Smith on guitar.

Mute Swan – “Hypnosis Tapes”

Mute Swan have shared stages with Wednesday, Horse Jumper Of Love, and other great, fuzzy acts, and now the Tucson shoegazers are the newest signees to Hit The North/Wooden Tooth. Along with the announcement, they’re releasing a new song aptly titled “Hypnosis Tapes.”

Miguel Gives Dramatic Kimmel Performance, Announces Tour

It finally happened. Last night, the mercurial R&B great Miguel released Coas, his first album in eight years. Now, he’s getting ready to take it on tour. Early next year, Miguel’s genuinely electrifying live show is coming to venues across North America and Europe. Pop experimentalist Jean Dawson is opening the North American shows, with Channel Tres jumping on just for the big hometown LA show.

Rosalía – “Berghain” (Feat. Björk & Yves Tumor)

Perhaps you’ve heard that there’s a new Rosalía album coming soon. Last week the Catalan art-pop artist announced that her new album LUX, the follow-up to 2022’s Motomami, would be arriving on November 7. An album rollout that short doesn’t usually necessitate any advance singles, but we’re getting one nonetheless: “Berghain,” which features Björk and Yves Tumor, is out now.

Vans Unveils American Football Sneakers At American Football House

American Football’s debut LP turned 25 last year, and the celebratory festivities just keep on coming. Last night, Vans threw a party at 704 W. High Street in Urbana, Illinois — aka the American Football House — with the band’s own Mike Kinsella, Nate Kinsella, and Steve Lamos, plus a bunch of their musical and skateboarding friends. And, of course, there were many pairs of custom shoes for the occasion.

Jejune And Ethel Meserve Announce First Shows In Over 25 Years

The emo trio Jejune started at Boston’s Berklee College Of Music in the late ’90s, and they relocated to San Diego and released two charged, twinkly records in the late ’90s before breaking up in 2000. I don’t hear their name mentioned too often these days, but they were definitely a big part of that early emo wave. Earlier this year, the Numero Group announced that they’d signed Jejune. Now, the band has announced a brief run of reunion shows, set for next February in Japan.

Neil Young’s annual Harvest Moon benefit concert went down yesterday in Lake Hughes, CA, with proceeds going towards the Bridge School and Painted Turtle Camp. Young (backed by the Chrome Hearts) headlined as usual, and Lana Del Rey went on right before him. She opened her set with a tribute to the man of the evening, doing a cover of “The Needle And The Damage Done,” from his 1972 classic Harvest.
