Since Saturday night, seemingly the whole of New York City has been heartily enjoying the Knicks’ first NBA championship since 1973. People were out in the streets all night after the team’s series-clinching win in San Antonio, and many of them were belting out Alicia Keys’ chorus to Jay-Z’s “Empire State Of Mind.” Keys herself sang the song Saturday night at the Tribeca Film Festival, where the documentary Alicia Keys: Girl From Hell’s Kitchen had a well-timed premiere last week. Unsurprisingly, she was on hand today at the victory parade as well.

Inspiration can strike at any moment. For Canadian quartet Gizmo, their latest single “Gift Shop” was born in the place where memories and commerce converge. “Usual tourist hanging around in a gift shop shaped like a circus clown/ Settled away in the past tense rolling on the strip,” frontman Julien Kitson sings over guitar distortion and a steady drumbeat. “Gift Shop” announces the Charlottetown group’s debut album All Your Worships, out October 2.

Earlier this year, Nikki Nair collaborated with the Avalanches on the single “Together.” Now he’s back with new music of his own. Yesterday, he announced that he had joined George Daniel’s dance-focused Dirty Hit sublabel, dh2, and said he attempted to make house music but failed. Still, he “ended up with four mistakes that I will package as an EP,” he deadpanned in a funny social post.

Last year was huge for Saul Williams. The multi-hyphenate played the role of a preacher in the blockbuster film Sinners. A few months later, he released a collaborative album with Carlos Niño, earning him his first Grammy nomination. As heard on their new track out today, the Raleigh post-punk band RIBS are like a harder, meaner, spacier Hold Steady, mixing classic rock riffs with Mike Wallace’s spoken and shouted narration. After a long and accomplished tenure as a live act, RIBS released their debut album Junk Dynasty Leaderboard last year. They’re putting out their second, COLD RIBS, this summer via the great North Carolina indie institution Three Lobed, whose Cory Rayborn seemed to have a lot of fun describing the band in a note to Bandcamp followers today:

Way back in 2014, k.d. lang reached out to fellow singer-songwriters Neko Case and Laura Veirs to see if they wanted to make an album as a trio. Case and Veirs enthusiastically agreed, so they all started working together in Portland for a couple of years. The three of them became a group known as case/lang/veirs, and they toured together after releasing a self-titled album, which came out on this day in 2016. Today, case/lang/veirs celebrate that anniversary by announcing a deluxe edition and sharing a previously unreleased song.

The Austin combo Guiding Light includes two members of local indiepop rising stars Touch Girl Apple Blossom, but this group jangles a bit differently. Guiding Light’s lo-fi self-titled EP was full of twitchy, hyperactive post-punk — the sound of virtuosic Television guitar moving at contorted Minutemen rhythms, topped off by Elise Cook’s blunt German bellows and English exclamations on sort of a Kleenex/Liliput wavelength. It was cool.

Over the weekend, Primal Scream headlined Ireland’s Beyond The Pale festival. For their 12 song set, the band reunited with former member Kevin Shields, who played the first My Bloody Valentine show in seven years last November.
