Naming your band How Strange It Is must be some kind of indie-rock sleeper cell activation, but the Portland combo is playing it coy by not naming their debut album To Be Anything At All. Instead, the record is called There Is No Evil, and judging by how successfully lead single “Slime” applied a shoegaze exterior to plucky Shins-meets-AnCo pop-rock, it’s going to be worth hearing. We get another preview today in the form of “Tough Luck,” which is sort of a Sparklehorse song for the Alex G era. It’s good, so listen below.

Surely you remember Bimbo, the sibling duo who recently signed to the illustrious indie institution Exploding In Sound and caught our attention with the announcement of their debut album The Bimbonacci Sequence, whose title has earned many compliments from Stereogum commenters (and other people, probably). Of course that would mean nothing if the lead single, “Chewing Glass,” was bad, but lucky for us it was a true eccentric banger. Now they’re back with another weird one. This one’s called “Things Keep Getting Worse,” and it’s about how things keep getting worse, and it ends with Gretchen McKenzie yelling “THINGS JUST KEEP GETTING WORSE!” over and over, and it’s awesome. In a few short weeks, Texan metallic hardcore heavyweights Judiciary will return with their new EP Stalagmite Angels. We’ve already posted the extremely fucking sick lead single “Wall Of Skulls,” and now they’ve got a new banger called “Death Knell.” It’s an all-out thrasher with some gigantic riffs and a percussive breakdown that puts me in that old Sepultura mood. Way back in 2014, when she was just coming off of the success of her mega-hit “Call Me Maybe” and working on her critically beloved album E·MO·TION, Carly Rae Jepsen made her Broadway debut, playing the lead role in the musical Cinderella. More than a decade later, Jepsen is coming back to Broadway, but not as an actor. This time around, she’s getting together with Girls auteur Lena Dunham and writing a musical based on the beloved 1999 high-school rom-com 10 Things I Hate About You. If you’re a millennial theater kid, this is the dream.

Fontaines D.C. are slowly coming back into the fold, ratcheting up the hype along the way. Earlier this week, they debuted a couple of new songs live and have been teasing a new album. Last night, indie pop event Glas-Goes Pop played host to a near-reunion of Felt, with three members of the influential jangle-pop band taking to the stage together for the first time in decades. They performed last night in Glasgow, Scotland at the indie pop music festival Glas-Goes Pop, which was hosted at Glasgow University Union.
